Religious leaders under their umbrella Inter religious council of Uganda have last week held prayers against homosexuality in the country most especially in schools.
The prayers, commenced from Buhinga play ground, but later the attendees moved around Fort City town praying for God’s intervention.
In attendance were the students from most of the different secondary schools and institutions, local residents, politicians, religious leaders from different denominations among others.
While addressing the general public at Buhinga on Friday March 17, 2023, the Rt. Rev. Robert K Muhirwa Akiiki bishop for Fort Portal diocese, asked the students to be contented with what they have in life rather than running for quick money at the cost of their dear lives.
The Rt. Rev. Reuben Kisembo Amooti, bishop for Ruwenzori diocese, they have as religious leaders in the region declared war against homosexuality and all other related immoralities.
He further explained that not only homosexuality acts are immoral, but also corruption, prostitution ,drug abuse among others which he advised people to desist from.
Rev. Kintu Willy Muhanga stated that as religious leaders from Tooro, they are going to pressurize the leaders and parliament to pass the Anti homosexuality bill of 2023.
He added that this will enable them attend the plenary the day on which the bill will be passed and see who is going to be against it.
The RPC Rwenzori west regional police Commander ACP Norman Musinga, noted that he has already deployed police in some schools investigating homosexuality acts and thus vowed to arrest whoever will be found in such acts.
Meanwhile speaking to our reporter, Karungi Grace Mugasa from Christ Aid international, stated that Christ Aid schools have put several measures to curb the students from engaging in such acts including educating students about dangers of homosexuality, installing cameras on all corners of the school, enough lights in the classes and around the compound among others.
Council victor Businge, said that according to the penal code Act, in case one caught in homosexuality acts, one is supposed to serve jail for 7 years imprisonment.
However, the new proposed Anti- homosexuality bill, provides for 10 years of imprisonment of any one involved in aggravated homosexuality.
