Ms Ainebyona Monica the head of Tooro Babies home has explained the process any legible person has to fulfill before being given a child for adoption.
About Tooro Babies Home
Toro Babies Home is a Non Profit Organization and is legally registered with the ministry of gender labor social development. The legal owners of Toro Babies Home are the two dioceses, the Catholic Diocese of Fort Portal and the Diocese of Ruwenzori Church of Uganda.
Her comments followed complaints from parents that adopted children in Uganda over what they termed as high adoption costs that deter Ugandans from adopting vulnerable children from baby’s homes and orphanages. The revelation was made ahead of the Adoption Awareness Conference 2024 which took place on March 7th 2024 in Kampala.
Sheila Kawamara an adoptive parent expressed concerns at a press conference, stating that the legal expenses are the most challenging asking the government to subsidize and benefit both adoptive parents and the country
According to Ainebyona, the process is seems to be long and league in order to authenticate the intention and capability of a person seeking to adopt a child
She however blames the allegedly extortion cases on probation offices at the district level who are responsible for processing and following up the child during the time of adoption
