As the 2025/2026 national elections approach, Isaazi ly’abantu Bakuru ba Tooro (Tooro Elders Forum) has organized a public debate for political aspirants to help voters choose the best candidates.
Prof. Edward B. Rugumayo, Chairperson of Isaazi ly’Abantu Bakuru ba Tooro, announced during a press conference at Gardens Restaurant in Fort Portal City that the debate will be held on December 20th and 21st at St. Paul’s National Major Seminary Kinyamasika.
Expected Participants
Rugumayo stated that candidates running for MP, Mayor, LC5, and women’s representative positions in the City and District of Kabarole are encouraged to participate in this debate. He anticipates that this civic education initiative will eventually extend to other districts in the region.
About the debate
The debate, is part of Isaazi’s efforts to prepare the region for a peaceful and orderly election year and all interested candidates are urged to register their intent by October 20, 2024. Rugumayo made it clear that while registration is not mandatory, it is preferred to ensure that no candidate is excluded from the debate.
The Chairperson Tooro People’s Forum, further highlighted concerns about inadequate representation in parliament and the stagnation in development in Tooro, which he attributes to a lack of advocacy for regional issues, hoping the debate comes with solutions.
Members air out their anticipations
Msgr. Isaiah Mayombo, a member of Isaazi ly’Abantu Bakuru ba Tooro, noted that candidates will present their manifestos, visions for leadership, and their plans to address community needs and deliver results.
Fr. Pascal Kabura, a founding member of Isaazi, emphasized that this initiative aims to further develop Tooro, a region known for its peacefulness.
