Tooro Kingdom in partnership with MTN Uganda, yesterday hosted a bicycle race in Kamwenge, as a way of engaging members of the Kingdom, ahead of the 200th Empaango celebrations
The Kamwenge bicycle race competition, was flagged off by the Sports minister Tooro Kingdom, Owek. Micheal Wandera Enganjani in companion with the MTN representatives, in Rugonjo- Kamwenge.
Participants
Notably, 67 members initially had registered for these competitions, but only 38 of these actually participated, including 37 males and a female.
Of the participants, first 5 riders of ordinary bicycles, and other first 5 riders of sports bicycles, were recognized as winners of the race from Rugonjo to Kamwenge town, which is a distance of about 20 Kilometers.
The overall winners
As funded by MTN Uganda, Peter Wabulo from Kamwenge emerged the overall rider for the ordinary bicycle, and won 500,000Shs, whereas Martin Ampaire the winner of Sports bike riders, won 400,000 U Shs only.
The other winners for ordinary bicycle include Zadoki Tumusiime 250,000 Uganda Shillings, Stephen Tumuhimbise, Emmanuel Tumwekwasize and Emmanuel Bizimana who were handed 100,000 Uganda Shs, only.
The other category for winners who used sports bikes include ; Herbert Tumwebaze who emerged the second and won 200,000 Uganda Shillings , and Joseph Mugisa, Brian Ahimbisibwe, and Ivan Murungi who all won 100,000 Uganda Shs respectively
Kamwenge boda riders portray discipline throught the race
While rewarding the emerged winners of the race, Owek. Wandera, lauded MTN for the total support of Kingdom activities, and promised on behalf of the Tooro Kingdom, to continue working closely with the company.
Wandera hailed Kamwenge boda Men for the total discipline portrayed in the day’s activity, saying that this kind of discipline has not been observed in the previous areas, of the Kingdom where the same activity has been hosted.
Kamwenge to host the competitions next year
The Tooro Minister of Sports, announced that Kamwenge will host the general Kingdom bicycle race competitions next year 2023, following the order and discipline they have portrayed.
” I am hereby challenged by the total discipline shown by the Kamwenge Boda riders. We have faced it rough with other cyclists in the previous counties. I here by declare Kamwenge the next host of the general bicycle race competitions next year” Remarked Wandera
Wandera, lauded MTN for the total support of Kingdom activities, and promised on behalf of the Tooro Kingdom, to continue working closely with the company.
At the same function of rewarding winners, was the county chief and the Kamwenge Woman member of Parliament Hon. Sylvia Bahireira Tumwekwase, who lauded the Tooro King Oyo Nyimba Rukidi iV, for lobbying cash from MTN Uganda, to promote sports talents among the people of Tooro.
Hon. Bahireira, called upon members to engage in such activities not only for money, but also for their physical fitness. She recognized the only lady who participated in the activity with 100,000 Uganda Shillings, and appealed to the girl child to borrow a leaf.
Meanwhile, through their representative, MTN pledged continuous support in as far as promoting the Kingdom of Tooro is concerned.
They also lauded the participants for coming in large numbers to take part, in support of their Kingdom.
Next in line
Wandera announced that later next week, the Kingdom will be hosting the same activity in Kitagwenda, where riders will start from Nyabani to Kabujogera-Kitagwenda.
The grand finale competitions he added, will also be hosted in Fort Portal city, where the overall winner will walk away with cash of 2 Million Uganda Shillings.
He also revealed, that so far, the Kingdom had already covered at least 70% of all it’s areas, with the bicycle race competitions.
