The Tooro Subregion is in mourning
the death of their beloved music icon, Moses Kigambo Araali, who passed away at the age of 47 yesterday.
Kigambo breathed his last at the Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital (Buhinga), where he had been admitted for treatment of an emergency intestinal obstruction.
Musical Achievements
A proud Musiita by clan, Moses Kigambo Araali was widely recognized for his music, which focused on preserving culture, leadership, and dignity. His work earned him several accolades, including the Best Artist Award at the 2007 Pearl of Africa Music (PAM) Awards, the 2008 East Africa KISIMA Music Award from Nairobi, Kenya, Best Video Uganda, the Rotary International Vocational Award for distinguished success in integrating development themes into the entertainment industry (presented by Rotarian Christopher Mutalya in 2009), the Tooro Eyanyenkya Hati Gold Medal in 2015 from Brig. Gen. Ronnie Balya, the Uganda Music Award (TUMA) for Best Regional Artist in Western Uganda in 2017, and the Media Practitioner Award from Rt. Rev. Robert K. Muhiirwa, Bishop of Fort Portal Diocese, in 2018, among others.
Biography
Born on March 1, 1977, in Kyenjojo, Nyakabara Kijuma Ward, Kyenjojo Town Council, Mwenge South, Kyenjojo District, Western Uganda, Moses Kigambo was married with four children. He completed his Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) at Nyantungo Primary School in 1992 but did not continue formal education. Instead, he pursued vocational training in motorcycle and motor vehicle mechanics, as well as entrepreneurship.
Kigambo was best known for his iconic song “Ekirare Kya Tooro,” which speaks to the legacy of an individual, opinion leader, and political leader, cementing his place in the cultural history of Tooro.
According to the tentative program, a vigil will be held at his home in Kitumba Kaihokwa today, January 5th. A church service will take place at Zoe Ministries in Kisenyi on January 6th, followed by the transfer of the body to his ancestral home in Kyenjojo Nyakabara for the final send-off on January 7th.
