Following last week’s drama at the Tooro kingdom Muchwa chambers Fort Portal, members of Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV remained divided over the newly appointed premier.
The appointment
His royal majesty Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV appointed Stephen Frankston Kiyingi as the new premier Tooro kingdom, replacing Bernard Tungakwo Ateenyi, an action that left members of the Orukurato divided and others vowing to go to court.
Some members are accusing King Oyo for appointing a non Mutooro, though residents have expressed different reactions on the matter.
What natives say
Robert Mutuzi, the director of the institutional development association in Fort Portal, has accused some members of the Orukurato for being tribalistic and practicing racism.
He says that each king’s subject living in Tooro has a right of any appointment from the King regardless of the tribe or race.
Mutunzi has also lampooned some members who are planning to sue the kingdom, stating that they have no grounds they are basing on, since the king suspended the constitution.
Sarah Kemigisa, a resident of Rwengoma has said that people of Tooro should first make research about the new premier on his family background, about the kingdom constitution, before they can publicly argue.
Clovis Mugume, a resident of Kamengo proposes that the King follows the cultural norms before appointing any crucial post.
Godfrey Mwebembezi, has alternatively stated that kingdom officials should not be driven by some peanuts to perform their duties without any hindrances.
