The Bishop of Rwenzori Diocese, Rt. Rev. Reuben Kisembo Amooti, has called on Christians to regularly test for HIV and other diseases to know their health status.
He made the appeal while opening the first-ever lay readers and their spouse’s conference at Kyebambe Girls Secondary School in Fort Portal City.
Leading by Example
The conference featured a health camp organized by Uganda Christian University in partnership with Kabarole Hospital and the Ruwenzori Diocese.
The camp provided testing and treatment for various illnesses, prompting Bishop Kisembo to lead by example, being the first to undergo HIV testing.
Dr. Nsubuga Musin, Executive Director of Save Mothers at Uganda Christian University, said the initiative aims to eliminate new HIV infections by 2030.
Rev. Sarah Kankyo Amooti, the Diocesan Health Coordinator, emphasized the church’s role in promoting both spiritual and physical well-being, encouraging lay leaders to spread the message of health and hope in their communities.
