Cases of early pregnancies and early marriages are affecting the future of the youth in Tooro sub-region which is being blamed on irresponsible men.
According to parents, Alex Tuhairwe and Monica Twikireze of Kijura town council in Kabarole district, many old men are sleeping around with young girls and others end up impregnating the girls still going to school.
About this concern
The concern, comes when World Education Program Bantwana is undertaking campaign to sensitize the youth about HIV/Aids in the region.
World Education Program Bantwana
Peter Kusemererwa, the programs manager for Tooro region office, says Bantwana is a South African utterance meaning children.
In coordination with National and Local government programs, Bantwana provides technical and management capacity building to community-based organizations and individuals on helping vulnerable families access a comprehensive range of care and services.
Currently, they have initiated a program of sensitizing families on managing resources especially husbands that are failing to pay school fees for their children and husbands that are not providing for their families.
The Bantwana, operate in Kyenjojo, Kabarole and Bunyangabu district where some children have forced out of school due to lack of school fees.
According to Kusemererwa, it’s high time the youth guard against obstacles that want to kill their future.
Bantwana, fosters teamwork with stakeholders including government ministries, schools, civil society, local organizations, and traditional leaders to ensure the continuity of best practices and community mobilization for the good of a child.
