The deputy cultural minister for Tooro kingdom, Zebidayo Mwesige, has discouraged citizens from embracing the trend of DNA tests.
Mwesige’s reason for his take on the DNA issue, is that the public goes back to the original cultural norms and traditions instead of copying the western cultures.
He appeals to public to desist from copying European standard of living and appreciate the uniqueness of African Cultural set up.
In an interview with our reporter, the deputy Tooro cultural minister, reflects back on African traditional Society (ATS), where a child would be allowed to belong to a certain clan of family, through the intervention of family elders, without involving outsiders.
“Previously, if a man doubted the originality of a child in his family, only family members composed of elders, the father and wife would go to at around table [ Hakasaka] secretly, identify the problem and sort it out without the knowledge of the sorrounding community, Unlike the current confusion.” Narrated Zebidayo.
According to Mwesige, by any chance child is not found to be biological to the man, they would keep it a secret, and continue looking after them, in agreement with their real family.
Mwesige, wonders why there is cause for alarm after a man finding out that the child is not his, and thus asks men to rather look out on why a woman would seek a baby outside her marriage.
Meanwhile , Mwesige has no kind words for people who have committed crimes through killing the children, injuring wives, and steered family break up, due to DNA results, an unnecessary act be termed.
Zebidayo’s caution, follows the fact that a good number of Ugandans have embarked on DNA tests, with an aim of proving if the true originality of the Children in their homes.
