As Christmas Day approaches, Rt. Rev. Reuben B Kisembo Amooti, Bishop of Ruwenzori Diocese, has raised concerns about the lack of enforcement of traffic laws by the police, leading to a surge in accidents during festive seasons.
Despite the visible presence of traffic police on the roads, Bishop Kisembo asserts that people continue to commit traffic offenses like overloading and over-speeding due to bribery. He emphasizes that corruption within the ranks of traffic police undermines the effectiveness of existing traffic laws and poses a continued risk of accidents.
Calling for responsible driving during the festive season, Bishop Kisembo urges strict enforcement of traffic laws by the police, emphasizing the need to apprehend all drivers who violate these regulations.
The Bishop, was speaking from his office at St John’s Cathedral in an interview with our reporter, where he also addressed the issue of domestic violence.
He called for forgiveness, repentance, and a spirit of love among people to prevent incidents of murders and assaults during this festive season.
