As schools reopens today after a two years Lock -down due to covid- 19 pandemic, transport fares have remained constant in Fort portal.
According to government directives through the ministry of works and transport to all transporters not to hike transport fares as students travel from different destinations as schools reopen.
According to our reporter who moved from different taxi and bus parks, traveling from Fort portal to Kampala is at 50,000shs and by taxi, between 35000 to 40000shs.
Traveling on a taxi, from Fort portal Kasese, it is 10,000shs, Kibito, 5000-4000shs, Rwimi, 6000shs and Mabara 30000shs, Ishaka Bushenyi 35,000shs.
According to Robert Balinda Mwesige taxi driver and chairperson Rubis stage, they cannot defy the government directive not to hike the prices.
Paul Mugisa and conductor said that they cannot hike transport since parents don’t have money.
