In a significant victory against the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) terrorists, the Uganda Peoples’ Defense Forces (UPDF) and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) conducted a successful joint operation in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The operation, resulted into putting out of action three ADF terrorists and the rescue of eight civilians, including five children and three women, in the Matunguru Valley, North East of Maitatu, Irumu territory.
The rescued women shared their ordeal of being abducted by the ADF during an ambush on a bus traveling from Kamanda to Beni on November 5, 2021, at Ndalya. After enduring captivity, they were finally liberated by the combined efforts of UPDF and FARDC.
UPDF spokesperson and Operation Shujja Major Bilal Katamba provided details of the recovered items, including an RPG bomb and medicines utilized by the rebels. The joint forces are actively pursuing the remaining rebels, who were previously ousted from Mwalika Valley late last year.
Affiliated with ISIS, the ADF has been responsible for numerous atrocities against civilians in Eastern DRC and Uganda. The ongoing joint operation is a crucial step towards dismantling this threat and restoring peace to the region.
