As the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) marked the 43rd Tarehe Sita yesterday, Maj. Gen. Dick Olum, commanding the UPDF mountain division and leading Operation Shujja, dedicated this year’s celebrations to the success achieved in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The joint operation with DRC army FARDC, named ‘Operation Shuja, initiated on November 30, 2021, aimed at combating the ADF, who have inflicted harm on both Ugandan and Congolese citizens.
Speaking at the Tarehe Sita event at Buhinga play ground yesterday, Maj. Gen. Olum highlighted the progress made by the UPDF since the operation’s inception.
Olum emphasized that the UPDF has effectively displaced numerous ADF elements from various areas in Congo, including Kainama and Tomeka, with ongoing efforts to eradicate them completely.
Regarding the ongoing operations against the ADF in Congo, Olum stressed the importance of enhanced information sharing from the populace to ensure the eradication of all ADF rebels, both in Congo and within Uganda.
While expressing pride in the symbiotic relationship between the public and the army, Olum urged all serving soldiers to maintain respect towards civilians.
Richard Rwabuhinga, the Kabarole district chairperson, praised the ADF for their efforts in restoring peace for the people of Uganda and Congo.
Emmanuel Businge, the deputy RCC of central division Fort Portal City, called upon Ugandans to safeguard the achievements of the UPDF and the NRM government.
