A total of two (2) billion shillings is required for the renovation of Virika Cathedral the headquarters of Fort-portal catholic diocese whose rooftop has suffered leakages in the previous months.
The chairperson of the fundraising committee and vicar general Mrsg Isaiah Mayombo says that architectural consultants have promised good and quality work after raising the required amount of money.
Our lady of snows Virika Cathedral constructed in 1968 after the 1966 earthquake has undergone several renovations especially the roof which authorities attribute to the unique architectural designs that cannot be repaired by anybody.
The cathedral was last renovated in 2005 and it requires another renovation 16 years later. Mayombo says this time everyone including the bishop is involved to ensure proper construction.
The diocese has selected Saturday 11th September as date for official fundraising launch and deputy speaker of parliament Anita Among will be chief guest. Bishop Robert Muhirwa says the event will be scientific.
The bishop has rallied every catholic and people of goodwill to at least contribute 5000 shillings each to support the renovation.
Many Christians have welcomed the request of the bishop but says a good and honest knowledgeable company should be awarded the contract to avoid further renovations after a short time.
