Patients from both the Rwenzori Region and beyond can rest assured of enhanced healthcare services, following the newly introduced digital X-ray machine at Holy Family Virika Hospital in Fort Portal City.
Earlier today, the hospital held its annual health assembly, which also served as the platform to unveil the new X-ray machine, the technology that will assist in diagnosing a wide range of conditions, from fractures, dental issues and to help doctors examine internal health concerns without the need for surgery.
Dr. Joseph Kato, the Medical Director at Virika Hospital, emphasized that the health assembly provides an opportunity for patients, medical professionals, and the community to give feedback, which is crucial for improving services. He also highlighted the assembly’s provision of free consultations.
Dr. Kato expressed optimism about the timely arrival of the X-ray machine, noting that it will help reduce waiting times at the hospital, as results can be obtained in just three minutes. He encouraged patients to take full advantage of this new resource for better healthcare outcomes.

Bishop Robert Muhiirwa Akiiki, on behalf of the Board of Trustees of the Fort Portal Catholic Diocese, praised Manos Unidas, a Spanish organization, via Fr Joseph Musana and Children Everywhere for their significant contribution toward purchasing the digital X-ray machine. He expressed confidence that the machine will improve service delivery at Virika Hospital urging the community to support the initiative and disregard any false rumors intended to damage the hospital’s reputation.
The Chairperson Board of Governors Virika Hospital, Rev. Fr. Tadius Musabe, also acknowledged the efforts of Dr. Alex, the chief guest, as well as fellow board members and the hospital staff, whom he referred to as “foot soldiers” dedicated to saving lives under challenging circumstances. He commended patients for entrusting their lives to their facility, and different partners like Uganda Farmers Incorporated for solving the water problem in the hospital.
Dr. Alex Adaku, Medical Director/Superintendent of Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital, who represented Dr. Henry Mwebesa, the Director General of Health Services as the Chief guest, praised the Catholic Church’s vital role in the nation’s healthcare system. He noted that the church often reaches underserved areas where the government has yet to establish a presence.
Dr. Adaku pledged continued government support and delegated funds expressing appreciation for Virika Hospital’s embrace of modern healthcare technologies. He also delivered Dr. Mwebesa’s promise to post a government medical officer to the hospital to ensure continued oversight and support.
