Fort Portal City Mayor, Edison Asaba Ruyonga, has stated that the city council does not collect revenue from campaign posters displayed by aspiring candidates.
This clarification comes after many residents questioned whether the city earns income from these posters.
Ruyonga, explained that Fort Portal City operates on a low tax regime, focusing on property tax and that the city aims to avoid burdening citizens. In this case, he explained, the same city prioritizes creating a conducive environment for them.
“The city executive committee decided not to charge aspiring candidates for displaying campaign posters, allowing them to campaign freely. Everyone has the right to enjoy their freedoms and be given a chance to campaign without unnecessary pressure.” Noted Ruyonga.
The city’s approach to revenue collection is designed to support its residents and stakeholders.
