Kabarole district Deputy RDC, Paul Ogalo Bwire, has warned residents who do not have latrines to have them constructed in one week or else they will be arrested.
According to Mr. Bwire, as security, they will team up with local leaders, do prompt visits to all LC1s, Councilors and residents so that whoever will be found without a latrine, will be arrested and prosecutedwith immediate effect, saying the government cannot emphasize development yet people are in a dirty environment.
He said these at the launch of the sanitation and Hygiene activities in Harugongo Sub County at their headquarters last week.
The DPC Francis Kyesimira, disclosed that since there is an ordinance, police will support the district leaders in enforcing it to make sure the population is healthy.
According to Cecillia Birungi, the District Health Inspector, Harugongo sub county is the least in sanitation coverage with 75% and most of the latrines are not to the required standards hence exposing residents to hygienic preventable diseases.
Birungi reveals that under this program, they will put much focus in Kyakaigo, Harugongo, Mugamba B, Kicharacha and Bicumbi villages visiting homes and assessing sanitation and hygiene issues.
Mary Ayoreka, of International Water and Sanitation Center IRC pledged continued support to the district to achieve the WASH master plan through promoting basic sanitation to eliminate open defecation among residents.
Resty Balinda, the district secretary for Health, called upon the leaders to cooperate to ensure that residents live in a clean and healthy environment.
