The Rt. Rev. Bishop Robert Muhiirwa Akiiki, Ordinary of Fort Portal diocese, on Saturday August 6 2022, ordained 4 deacons into priesthood, and 6 seminarians into deaconate.
This, was at our lady of holy rosary Yerya catholic parish, Fort Portal diocese where hundreds gathered for ordination mass. Among the attendees, were the clergy and religious, parents to the ordination candidates, government leaders and lay Christians.

While delivering his homily to hundreds of congregants gathered to witness ordination of the above candidates, Bishop Muhiirwa appreciated Yerya parish for the effort of nurturing their children to the level of priesthood and Deaconate.
Relating to the day’s gospel taken from Mathew 17:4, The Bishop appealed to the ordination candidates, to be witnesses of Christ without fear or favor.
He explained that priests make a vow of celibacy because they emulate Jesus Christ’s life of not marrying, serving God with their whole heart, and following God’s special giftedness and anointing, and that also there is no marriage in the life after death.
Bishop Muhiirwa, revealed to the candidates that all these sacrifices can only be possible with God’s guidance and help. He also appealed to Christians to pray always in their respective homes, to overcome current challenges of inflation, lack of fees among others.
Fort Portal’s ordinary, further encouraged the youth to stick to their future dreams of being important people, but challenged them to put God first before anything else.
”The youth too are challenged by the current hardships like lack of teachers at schools, but say focused ,trust in God and stick to your dreams, you will finally succeed” Remarked Bishop Muhiirwa

After handing over certificates to the newly ordained, the Bishop Muhiirwa, revealed publicly as follows.

- Rev. Fr. Adolf Mwesige – Curate St.Padre Pio Nyahuka Parish,
- Rev. Fr. Peter Mwesige – Curate Kicuucu Proposed Parish
- Rev. Deacon Clovice Ruhuma – Wekomiire Parish
- Rev. Deacon Joseph Amanyire Kahunge Parish
The Bishop, called for collective efforts among Christians, in supporting the newly ordained priests and deacons in their areas of appointment.
Parents
A representative of parents to the ordained candidates, thanked Bishop Muhiirwa for allocating the function in the home parish of the four priests, and Fr. Francis Bamanyisa for organizing such a function.
The parents, appealed to the newly ordained, to endure any pain that may be faced their journey, just like Jesus did, bearing in mind they represent Christ wherever they be.
Government speaks out
On the same function, was Hon. Peace Regis Mutuuzo, minister for gender and culture, Who lauded the church on behalf of government, for bringing out useful Priests to the world.
Mutuuzo, said priests directly aid in the well being of citizens through their daily work of counseling, and service in various ways
She pledged full support in the journey they started on sunday, and noted that the government made a huge mistake by not involving religious leaders in currying out the consensus of poorest Ugandans, since religious leaders reach out to the least person any where.
