Members of the Pioneer Movement, which promotes total abstinence from alcohol, also known as the Total Abstinence of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, have officially concluded their annual conference at an event that took place from Wednesday, November 14 to Sunday, November 17, 2024, at the Yerya Parish headquarters in Kibiito Town Council, Bunyangabu District.
Members turn up in big numbers
A total of 170 members from the entire Diocese of FortPortal , attended the conference, with 58 members—mainly youth—making their vows to commit to the movement by pledging to abstain from alcohol.
Rt. Rev. Bishop Robert Muhiirwa Akiiki, the movement’s patron, attended the closing ceremony virtually, where congratulated the members for successfully completing the conference and encouraged them to follow the example of St. Bruno Serunkuma the Uganda Martyr who intercedes for those who exceedingly take alcohol to stop.
He also praised the members for their dedication to upholding the values of the movement.
In attendance at the event were Rev. Fr. Gerald Akugizibwe, the Pastoral Coordinator; Rev. Fr. Byamukama Robert, Parish Priest of Mpara; and facilitators Rev. Fr. Udalko Nyakatura , Rev. Fr. Stash Birungi among others
