Singer Richard Kasendwa aka Ziza Bafana and his four alleged accomplices have been released from detention after they pleaded guilty and opted to pay a fine they were sentenced to.
During the court proceedings, Bafana and his colleagues pleaded guilty to having disobeyed the Presidential directives and entered Tanzania, thereby by putting their lives and those of others at the risk of catching Covid-19 that already killed 58 Ugandans and infected more than 5,000 others.
On August 31, 2020 Bafana and other artistes are said to have sneaked into Tanzania through Mutukula porous border and went to perform at a music concert.
He was later arrested alongside Shaban Nsamba aka DJ Shan, Aron Kakiza aka Heizo music, Shaffik Ismael, a music promoter and Bashir Batstuta Ssekamanje aka Duke Play, a presenter at Buganda Kingdom’s based BBS and handed over to Ugandan authorities.
Having eased the court proceedings, the Grade II magistrate of Kasaali court, D.A.G. Luwaga, on Tuesday sentenced each of the five convicts to a fine of Shs 75,000 or be sent to prison for a period of three months.
They each opted to pay the money before they were released.
