people accused of selling fake examination papers on social media have been remanded to prison until October 19th.
The suspects appeared before the KCCA Magistrate’s Court, as more than 503,000 candidates began the 2026 Uganda Certificate of Education exams today.
The Uganda National Examinations Board, UNEB, has warned that anyone trading in exam papers, genuine or fake, faces a fine of up to 40 million shillings, up to ten years in jail, or both. Even staying in social media groups that trade such papers is an offence.
UNEB has deployed more than 2,000 scouts and nearly 600 security personnel to guard the exams, which started smoothly on time at 4,514 centres despite heavy rains.
