The Fort Portal City Council has yesterday launched the renovation of Fort Portal Public Library at a cost of 32.14 million shillings.
According to the City Engineer in charge of buildings, Eng. Jimmy Balewa, the renovation works will be undertaken by Smooth Hussle Contractors Limited and are expected to be completed within three months.
The works include reconstruction of the splash apron, cleaning and painting of the existing iron sheets, fascia boards and gutters, painting of walls, ceilings, windows and doors, as well as replacement of worn-out door locks.
Mayor Rev. Kintu Willy Muhanga said the city is also seeking a development partner to construct a modern public library that matches Fort Portal’s status.
He noted that although many people have benefited from the existing library over the years, its current appearance does not reflect the status of the city.
