Kyegegwa District Local Government will begin vaccinating domestic animals against Foot and Mouth Disease this month.
The Principal District Veterinary Officer Dr. Kahunde Annah Marry told our reporter that animals must be vaccinated every six months, and the last exercise was held in May. The first round runs from November 9th to 11th in Ruyonza Sub-County, covering Kashagazi, Ruteerwa and Karwenyi parishes, while a second team works in Nkaakwa Sub-County, covering Isunga, Kaingani and Nkaakwa parishes.
The exercise resumes on November 16th and 17th, with teams covering Kiremba and Kishagazi parishes in Ruyonza, and Kihomporo parish in Nkaakwa. Farmers who take part will have their details recorded in the system for future reference.
Dr. Kahunde has warned that those who resist vaccination will face the law. Farmers will pay 8,000 shillings per cow or pig, and 4,000 shillings per goat or sheep.
