A family in Kyangabukama, Kasisi Ward in Kiko Town Council is planning to sue Ruteete Heakth Center IV over the death of their relative, Kogere Diana, who reportedly passed away while in labor.
The family alleges there was a delay in receiving medical attention after she was taken to the facility on Saturday morning.
According to her brother, Patrick Tusiime, nurses made efforts to contact a doctor, but assistance did not come in time. He also claims that similar concerns have previously been raised about the facility by other residents, and the family is seeking accountability.
Leaders speak out
Meanwhile, Ruteete Sub-county Chairperson Deo Mugabe, questioned why the patient was not referred to another facility in time, while some health workers reportedly attributed the death to high blood pressure, the family disputes this claim.
Efforts to reach the officer in charge of Ruteete HCIV were unsuccessful, but the Kabarole District Health Officer, Dr. Stephen Kalyegira, says he is investigating the matter and will provide an update after establishing the facts.
