The nomination exercise for Local Council One (LC1) elections has officially closed in Kabarole District, with electoral officials reporting a high number of candidates successfully nominated to contest for village leadership positions.
Speaking after the close of nominations on Monday, Kabarole District Returning Officer Rogers Kasoro said the exercise, which began on July 15, concluded smoothly across all 347 villages in the district.
Kasoro said the Electoral Commission registered a record number of candidates, reflecting growing public interest in grassroots leadership. He noted that only one aspiring candidate was disqualified after presenting a refugee identity card instead of the required identification documents.
With the nomination exercise concluded, campaigns officially commenced today across the district. Kasoro said candidates are now free to present their manifestos and engage with voters in accordance with the Electoral Commission’s guidelines.
He explained that the campaign period will run for seven days, with candidates permitted to campaign daily between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Kasoro also reminded candidates to adhere to the electoral code of conduct throughout the campaign period. He warned against acts of bribery, corruption, campaigning outside the prescribed hours, reckless driving, and any conduct likely to disrupt the electoral process.
He urged all candidates and their supporters to maintain peace, respect electoral regulations, and promote issue-based campaigns to ensure free, fair, and credible village elections.
