Kitagwenda County yesterday made a bright start to this year’s Tooro Kingdom MTN Masaza Cup 5th Edition, beating hosts Burahya County one-nil at Buhinga Stadium.
The only goal, came in the first half from Hamis Samiru, giving Kitagwenda the lead they would not surrender. Burahya had a chance to equalize before the break when they were awarded a penalty, but Muhurizi Goodman’s effort from the spot went begging.
Kitagwenda, fought hard in the second half to protect a first win of the tournament, and now sit top of Group B with three points.
In Group A, Kyaka County and Bunyangabu County shared the same points after a thrilling three-all draw.
Meanwhile, Kitagwenda goalkeeper Mubangi was named Man of the Match and pocketed two hundred thousand shillings in Mobile Money from tournament sponsors, MTN Uganda.
In the netball tie, Kitagwenda’s Christine Nantabazi was named Most Valuable Player, also earning two hundred thousand shillings, while Burahya’s Lukia picked up one hundred thousand shillings as runner-up.
Speaking at the event, MTN brand ambassador Prime Longino urged fans to take part in the tournament’s raffle games and to keep using MTN merchant codes for a chance to win more prizes while also reminding the Kingdom to know their HIV status, guard against infection, and work together to keep HIV out of Tooro.
