The Bishop of Fort Portal Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Robert K. Muhiirwa Akiiki, has appealed to the Government of Uganda, through area Members of Parliament from the Tooro sub-region, to establish a specialized cancer hospital in memory of the late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
King Oyo succumbed to cancer in the United States, and his remains were returned to the kingdom last Friday.
Preaching during a requiem mass held at Karuziika on Monday evening, Bishop Muhiirwa said a specialized cancer hospital in Tooro would spare many patients the long distances and heavy costs currently associated with seeking treatment elsewhere.
He added that such a facility would also serve as a lasting way for the people of Tooro to honor and preserve the King’s legacy.

The Bishop also called for stronger cancer awareness and screening programs across government and private institutions, including schools and hospitals, as part of broader efforts to address rising cancer cases in the country. He noted that such programs would go a long way in promoting early detection among the population.
