Members of Tooro Kingdom Supreme Council best known as Orukurato Rukuru Rwensanju have endorsed the selection of Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanagoma as the next King after the demise of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi the IV
The confirmation happened at the Rukurato Hall in Mucwa Fortportal City on Tuesday afternoon, where the Babiito Clan chief prince Musuuga Charles Kamurasi who chaired the 21 member succession committee presented the name before the meeting chaired by Tooro Kingdom speaker Eng. Julius Mwirumubi
According to Musuuga the chosen prince 56 year old Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma is a son of late Prince Paul Christopher Kijanangoma and Grandson of Omukama George David Rukiidi III. He added that the new king has been renamed Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I
Musuuga also informed the meeting attended by clan heads, Masaza chiefs, and kingdom ministers that preparation meetings for the coronation have kicked off with Babiito elders while other clans and stakeholders will be brought on board in the due course. Official date for coronation will be announced to the public soon
Patrick Ganjangu, Rusoke Bunage and Patrick Muganzi representatives of Abagweri, Abasiita and Ababiito clans respectively seconded the pronouncement of the succession committee and asked members to support and make a resolution
Patrick Muganzi stated that the selection of Prince Edward Kijanangoma and execution of traditional rituals are in line with Tooro customs and the laws of Uganda
The supreme council endorsed the idea and carried the resolution with majority vote
