Parents at Buhinga Primary School in Fort Portal City have agreed to continue paying Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) fees to maintain and improve the quality of education.
The decision was reached on Friday at a meeting of parents, teachers and political leaders, called to discuss the suspension of PTA fees in UPE and USE schools.
Parents questioned whether the 20,000 shillings annual government grant per learner is enough to meet school needs. They asked the school not to increase the fees, and not to send children home over unpaid fees without first informing parents.
The Headteacher , Asiimwe Consistence said PTA funds have built new latrines and other structures, and bought examination materials and a printer. She added that parents also agreed to contribute 25,000 shillings towards a new classroom block, which she promised will be completed within six months.
