The Masaka High Court has granted bail to four National Unity Platform members, including Eddie Mutwe, the bodyguard of party leader Robert Kyagulanyi, after more than a year on remand.
Also released on bail yesterday are Achileo Kivumbi, Robert Gadafi Mugumya and Grace Wakabi. Justice Victoria Nakintu set cash bail at five million shillings each.
The four face charges of robbery and assault over a May 2024 incident in Lwengo District, where journalists covering a burial were allegedly attacked and robbed but they deny the charges.
However, Eddie Mutwe and Kivumbi will not walk free just yet as they face a separate case over alleged military-style drills at NUP headquarters.
The Masaka MP Gonzaga Ssewungu has appealed to supporters to help raise the bail money, and the four remain in custody as that is arranged.
The court had earlier rejected their bail request in August 2025.
