Action for Development, ACFODE, has equipped duty bearers in Kyegegwa District with knowledge on gender-responsive laws and policies, in a two-day workshop.
The workshop, organised in partnership with EIRENE International, was held at Katente Country Resort. It brought together chiefs, Community Development Officers, district officials, police officers, media practitioners and other stakeholders.
Speaking at the workshop, Akono Joy Dinah, the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer at ACFODE, said the organisation is a human rights body working in Uganda to advance gender equality.
She said awareness of gender-related laws and policies is still limited, yet duty bearers have a mandate to implement and promote them at community level.
Akono said strengthening the capacity and awareness of duty bearers can help reduce domestic violence and promote gender equality for all categories of people.
She called on the public to promote gender equality, starting within their families and communities
