The Mayor-Elect for Central Division, Joram Bintamanya, has called on Fort Portal City Council to exercise fairness and practical judgment in the implementation of the ongoing trade order, which began last week.
In an exclusive interview with Jubilee radio, Bintamanya expressed his support for the initiative aimed at restoring order in trade operations across the city but realized the need for enforcement officers to act with consideration and flexibility during the exercise describing it as common sense.
He noted that certain business activities require a balanced approach, particularly when it comes to allowing traders to reasonably display their goods in order to attract customers.
Corruption in the city
Bintamanya also attributed some of the city’s persistent challenges to rising corruption among sections of the technical staff, which he said has slowed progress in urban development.
He further urged fellow elected leaders to work collaboratively to improve service delivery and address the needs of residents more effectively.
