Christians have been urged to become “good fruits”, believers who hear the word of God, understand it, hold onto it, and live it out faithfully.
The call was yesterday made by Rt. Rev. Robert K. Muhiirwa Akiiki, while presiding over Mass marking Missionary Holy Childhood Sunday at Virika Cathedral in Fort Portal City.
Using the Parable of the Sower, the bishop explained four ways people respond to God’s word. Some, like seed on a hard path, reject the message outright. Others, like seed on rocky ground, receive it with excitement but abandon it once pressure or hardship comes. Some let life’s worries and distractions choke their faith, like seed among thorns. But those who truly listen, understand, and remain faithful are like seed on good soil, bearing lasting fruit.
He encouraged Christians to strive to be that good soil.
Turning to the children present from all 37 parishes of the Diocese, the bishop urged them to pay close attention to Catechism, understand the church’s teachings, and continue learning even after completing their classes.
He advised them to listen attentively to the word of God every Sunday, avoid distraction during prayers, and seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance to live out what they are taught.
After Mass, the children showcased their talents through dances, poems, news presentations, and songs, under the theme: “As a Child of Missionary Childhood, I Can Evangelise.”
