The Inspector of Schools for Fort Portal City, Annet Keneema, has encouraged pupils to actively participate in sports, saying co-curricular activities play a vital role in nurturing talent, promoting good health, and preparing young people for future economic opportunities.
Speaking during the St. Jude Primary School Kyegobe Sports Day held on Friday in Kyegobe Central Division, Fort Portal City, Keneema said sports help learners develop important life skills such as teamwork, discipline, inclusivity, and self-confidence while promoting a positive body image and physical fitness.
She noted that sports have become a lucrative career for many people around the world, urging learners to pursue their talents with passion, commitment, and determination.
Aligning with Ministry of Education
The Inspector also commended the administration of St. Jude Primary School for complying with the Ministry of Education and Sports’ guidelines by organizing regular co-curricular activities. She said such events are essential in promoting learners’ mental well-being and holistic development.
St. Jude Primary School Director John Malingo Abbooki said the sports day was organized to enhance learners’ physical fitness, improve cognitive performance, and equip pupils with valuable life skills beyond the classroom.
He explained that regular participation in sports boosts mental health, reduces academic stress, and instils discipline, teamwork, and resilience among learners.
Abbooki added that sporting activities also promote social development by helping children build friendships, improve communication skills, and develop a spirit of cooperation.
The sports day attracted enthusiastic participation from pupils, teachers, and parents, with learners competing in various athletic and recreational events aimed at identifying and nurturing sporting talent while encouraging healthy lifestyles.
