The Minister of State for Gender and Culture, Hon. Mary Kamuli Kutesa, has today officially handed over a gazette document and two vehicles from the Central Government to Tooro Kingdom.
The gazette document clarifies that His Majesty Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I is now officially recognized as the King of Tooro. The two vehicles are to facilitate the King’s movement as he oversees development activities in the kingdom.
Speaking at the handover of the items at Karuzika palace, Minister Kamuli said the Government of Uganda supports the development of cultural institutions with an aim of strengthening culture, language, norms, customs and family values which had weakened due to weak cultural institutions.

This comes after King Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I was officially gazetted on Friday 16th October. The delivery of the gazette documents gives the King full authority to execute his role as a recognized cultural institution leader for the development of Tooro Kingdom.
Meanwhile, the Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister, Owek. Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire, appreciated the Central Government for its continued support to the Kingdom since the time of the late King Oyo Nyimba , during his burial and after the succession.
He said the gazetted document will bring development to Tooro Kingdom and the two vehicles will ease the King’s movement.
The kingdom premier also urged the Batooro to maintain unity and togetherness and avoid using harsh language that may lead to violence.
