Leaders have raised concern over the rising number of road accidents in Uganda during the burial of Kikuube District Chairperson Peter Banura aged 48, who died in a road crash over the weekend.
Banura, son of veteran soldier Matayo Kyaligonza, was yesterday laid to rest in Kikuube District following a requiem mass led by Vincent Kirabo, who described him as a devoted Christian and dedicated public servant.
During the burial, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja delivered a condolence message from President Yoweri Museveni and announced a government contribution of 20 million shillings to the family.
Nabbanja, along with other leaders, called for stronger enforcement of road safety measures, urging the Ministry of Works and traffic police to address reckless driving.
Finance Minister Matia Kasaija warned against drink-driving and unsafe practices, especially among bodaboda riders.
Leaders also praised Banura’s commitment to development and cultural advocacy in Bunyoro, noting his efforts toward completing district infrastructure and protecting Bugoma Forest.
Led by his father, Rtd Major General Matayo Kyaligonza, Banura’s family described him as a humble and supportive man, he commended the community fir standing with them in such a trying moment.
