The Agriculture Minister Frank Tumwebaze has distanced himself from claims that his recent weight loss is a sign of ill health, reassuring the public that his new look is intentional and rooted in a commitment to better living.
The Minister, Frank Tumwebaze, through his X handle, says concerns from friends, colleagues, and well-wishers many of whom have been sending “quick recovery” messages
are understandable but misplaced.
Speaking from the National Leadership Institute NALI,in Kyankwanzi, which he humorously referred to as his “political Mecca,” Tumwebaze emphasized that his transformation is part of a deliberate effort to adopt healthier lifestyle choices.
He used the opportunity to raise alarm about a growing misconception in society—that being overweight is a sign of good health, while being lean is often wrongly associated with sickness. Health experts have long warned that such beliefs undermine the fight against non-communicable diseases, including heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension.
The Minister stressed that intentional weight loss achieved through proper diet, increased physical activity, and disciplined living is not only safe but worth celebrating. He clarified that concern should only arise when weight loss is sudden, unexplained, and linked to illness.
Tumwebaze, urged health educators, nutritionists, and the public to continue promoting accurate information about healthy body weight, noting that “obesity has never been a badge of honor.
He thanked those who reached out in concern, saying their messages were received in love, and reassured them: “It is well with me, and I thank God for the gift of life.”
