The Member of Parliament for Burahya County, Hon. Mugenyi Joseph, has intensified his grassroots engagement campaign with a visit to Kigaya Village in Kiraro Parish, Mugusu Sub-county, where he encouraged residents to embrace income-generating activities as a pathway to improved household livelihoods.
The visit forms part of the legislator’s constituency-wide initiative aimed at assessing the economic status of households and promoting practical wealth creation strategies among families.
During the exercise, Hon. Mugenyi visited more than 25 households, interacting directly with residents and gaining firsthand insight into the challenges affecting their incomes and productivity. He observed that many families were rearing local pig breeds that yield low returns and advised them to adopt improved varieties that grow faster, reproduce more efficiently, and attract better prices on the market.
He also encouraged residents to venture into poultry farming, describing it as one of the most accessible and profitable enterprises for rural households. According to the MP, poultry farming offers families an opportunity to earn regular income from the sale of eggs and chicken while requiring relatively modest capital to start.
Hon. Mugenyi emphasized that sustainable household development can only be achieved when families engage in productive activities that generate consistent income rather than relying solely on subsistence farming.
The legislator further revealed that the Kigaya visit is part of a broader programme he has launched during his first 100 days in Parliament. Under the initiative, he plans to visit more than 75 villages across Burahya County to engage directly with constituents, understand their challenges, and promote economic empowerment at the household level.
Residents welcomed the MP’s visit, describing it as an opportunity to share their concerns and receive guidance on viable income generating projects. Many expressed optimism that the promotion of modern farming practices would help boost productivity and improve living standards in the area.
