With just days to go before the enthronement of Prince Edward Rukidi Nyabongo the First, the Babito Royal Clan head, Musuga Charles Kamurasi Kayondo Akiiki, has officially welcomed the Tooro Queen Mother, Omugo Yusta Asiimwe Kijanagoma Amooti, and handed over the palace to her this evening.
Omugo Yusta was set received by hundreds of Tooro people at Karuzika Palace, escorted by residents from her home village of Kidukuru, a brass band, and members of the Bagombe clan, to which she belongs.
Musuga said that according to Tooro tradition, the queen mother must be formally welcomed and given her own palace, known as the “Ekikali,” where she will reside.
Babiito assure new QM support
Speaking warmly, Musuga assured the queen mother of full support from the Babito clan and the people of Tooro, promising to guard her jealously. He commended the Babito clan and the people of Tooro for restoring the kingdom’s glory, and pledged never to betray that trust.
Meanwhile, the Omugo was escorted by the Bagombe clan head, Nyinawempeka Omusaija John Rukindo, the king’s uncle, who thanked the Babito clan and the people of Tooro for the warm welcome extended to the king’s maternal side.
He appealed to the Babito clan members and ritualists to guide them in the kingdom’s traditions.
Prince Edward Rukidi Nyabongo the First will be enthroned on Tuesday as King of Tooro Kingdom, following the death of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi the Fourth, who succumbed to cancer last month in the United States.
