The Tooro kingdom has yesterday officially handed over 50 acre land to the government under the ministry of education and sports aimed at constructing a football stadium.
The land was handed over to the state minister in charge of education and sports Peter Ogwang at the kingdom headquarters Mucwa Fort Portal city.
Speaking during the handover, the prime minister for Tooro kingdom Armstrong Calvin Rwomire stated that the kingdom donated the land due to the outcry from the King’s subjects and love for sports by the King.
Rwomire says that the kingdom has had the land inspection with the government thus the remaining work is with them.
The premier further disclosed that it is up to the government to come and inspect other lands where it finds suitable for the stadium construction.
According to the minister Ogwanga, he is going to inform his top leadership including the minister for education and sports Janet Kataha Museven and the president Yoweri Kaguta Museven about the land inspection for an action.
Ogwanga further informed the people of Tooro not to expect the stadium construction due to lack of ready funding.
He observed that the government is still constrained with funding on the incoming AFCON competitions which needs a lot of money.
However, the minister says he is ready to inform the minister for finance and the parliament to allocate funds for the stadium construction.
