Omukama Edward Rukidi Nyabongo the First has challenged the Church to use its influence to remind parents of their core role in instilling moral values and Tooro cultural values in the younger generation.
He says this is key to overcoming the worrying levels of teenage pregnancy and HIV/AIDS in the region.
The Omukama was speaking at Virika Cathedral yesterday, during the 10 o’clock Mass led by Bishop Robert Muhiirwa.
He commended the Church for its great contribution in health, education and other areas that support the growth and development of the Tooro Kingdom.
Omukama Nyabongo also decried the declining parental guidance among young people, which he said has led to moral decay.

Nyabongo, cited young girls who fear pregnancy more than AIDS, and said both should be feared equally. He added that parents can still step in to nurture their children and teach them to be patient until the right time.
He also called for the revival of marriage, held sacred and conducted the right way, in line with Tooro norms and culture, adding that the mistakes of parents who did not follow the right procedure should not be repeated by the young generation.
The Omukama thanked Bishop Muhiirwa for his continued guidance and willingness to cooperate with the Tooro Kingdom agenda.
He also called for unity in diversity, for the good of Tooro.
