Muslim leaders in Tooro have asked Omukama Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I to include more Muslims in his cabinet.
Speaking during Juma prayers yesterday attended by the King at Kabarole Main Mosque in Fort Portal City, Tooro Muslim District Khadi Sheikh Abdu Karim Hakim said the request is not for an all-Muslim cabinet, but for greater representation.
He thanked the kingdom for including some Muslims in its administration already.
The Sheikh urged Muslims to embrace the kingdom, citing land, education and vocational skills, and said kingdomship is not forbidden in Islam.
The Omukama assured Muslims that his palace, Karuziika, is open to everyone, and pledged continued cooperation in education, fighting poverty and preserving culture.
The Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire said Tooro belongs to all, and invited Muslim leaders to bring proposals on education, health, jobs and youth livelihoods. He said the Omukama will soon unveil the kingdom’s strategic plan.
