The Bishop of Fort Portal Catholic diocese Rt. Rev. Dr. Robert Muhiirwa, Bishop of Fort Portal has launched a diocesan campaign to seek urgent support for Tooro Babies Home, a Catholic and Anglican-run shelter that cares for abandoned and vulnerable infants in the region.
Speaking yesterday during the official commissioning of Uganda Catholic Women Apostolate and Catholic Men Association in Iboroga parish in Kyenjojo district, Bishop Muhiirwa said that Tooro babies Home is run by the dioceses of Fort Portal and Ruwenzori
He said it was started by the late Bishop Rwakaikara of Ruwenzori diocese together with late Bishop Sarapio Magabo of Fort Portal diocese. Currently the Bishop of Ruwenzori Rt. Rev. Reuben Kisembo and Rt. Rev. Dr. Robert Muhiirwa of Fort Portal diocese are the trustees of the facility.
Bishop Muhiirwa said that as trustees they have a responsibility of mobilizing support for the facility. He noted that currently the facility has 42 children
He said that recently he visited the facility and heard the outcry from the matron that they had just receive 4 babies and among them 2 are twins who needs powdered milk which is expensive for them
Bishop Muhiirwa outlined urgent needs at the Home, including baby formula, diapers, clothes, medical supplies, and funds to pay caregivers and meet rising food costs. He tasked the general public to mobilize resources and support the facility.
However, at Iboroga parish a total of 2.1 million shillings was collected in cash to support the facility after hearing the Bishop’s call
