Mairungi farmers and traders in Kabarole District have endorsed Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba as Uganda’s next president.
The decision was earlier unanimously reached at on Friday at the Kabarole Mairungi Farmers and Traders Association meeting held at Hakibaale Sub County headquarters in Kiburara, attended by Hundreds of growers and traders.
The Association chairperson, Johnson Tinkamanyire said Mairungi is the economic backbone of about eight sub counties in Kabarole, adding that it has helped many families pay school fees and build homes, and that many people took it up after tea prices fell sharply.
Mugabo Aziiza, a farmer, said the group wants leadership that puts economic empowerment first, so that communities can earn sustainable incomes and improve their livelihoods.
But an elder and farmer, Hajji Siraji Kanaseke, urged members to look beyond income and invest in educating their children, so that Kabarole has an enlightened future.
The Kabarole District Chairperson, Ruben Kimome urged members to avoid drug abuse, save part of their earnings, and work together to overcome common challenges.
