Parents have been asked to keep a close watch over their children during the long holiday that follows the end of candidate classes.
Speaking to our reporter, the Burahya County Member of Parliament Joseph Mugenyi Ateenyi said Primary Seven and Senior Four leavers need guidance at home. He urged parents to give them work so they do not sit idle, and to keep them away from peer groups that could destroy their futures.
Clare Kasande Atwooki, The NRM Chairperson for Fort Portal City, suggested that the holiday should be used productively. She encouraged the vaccists to take up income-generating projects such as poultry and livestock farming adding that such projects keep young people busy while teaching them hard work and financial independence.
Clare Kasande, also warned the learners against drug abuse and sexual immorality, which can cost them their lives through HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections and unwanted pregnancies.
Kasande rallied parents to work with community leaders to make sure the children return to school safe and disciplined.
