The Omukama of Tooro, His Royal Highness Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I, has called on parents to embrace the five-day Measles-Rubella vaccination exercise, which kicked off today.
While officially launching the campaign at Karuzika Palace today morning, Omukama Nyabongo urged the people of Tooro, especially parents, to follow the government programme by taking their children for vaccination. He said Tooro will move forward if it ensures healthy children, healthy families and healthy people.
Musuuga weighs on the Campaign
The Chief Prince and Chief Advsor to Omukama, Musuuga Charles Kamurasi, assured the government and the Ministry of Health of the Kingdom’s total support for the programme.
He also urged lower learning institutions to join hands with government in protecting the nation’s children.
According to Dr. Mugisa Emmanuel, about 60 children died of Measles-Rubella last year across 68 districts in Uganda, forcing the Ministry of Health to carry out the campaign.
He said the exercise runs from October 1st to October 5th, 2026. All children aged 9 months to 5 years are to be vaccinated, regardless of previous vaccination.
Nasike Asumin Nasike, the Fort Portal City RCC, said the vaccination is free of charge. She warned that anyone found charging parents will face legal action.
