His Royal Majesty Omukama Edwaerd Rukidi Nyabongo the First has called for continued efforts to protect River Mpanga, which is under pressure from a growing population and falling water levels.
The Omukama said these yesterday at Kalya Courts Fort Portal City, where he was the special guest at the sixteenth annual Uganda Water and Sanitation Network forum for civil society organisations working on water, sanitation and hygiene.
He commended the late Omukama, Kabumba Oyo Nyimba Rukidi the Fourth, for recognising the threat to the river through his prominent campaigns including the Save River Mpanga campaign and tree-planting drives, saying this work must go on to protect the river and the communities that depend on it for their lives and livelihoods.
Nyabongo I, added that climate-resilient water and sanitation services must work for everyone, calling upon women, men girls, children, persons with disabilities, older persons, refugees, pastoral communities and people in hard-to-reach areas, not to be left out.
