Kabarole District and Fort Portal City have exceeded their targets in the measles-rubella vaccination campaign, which ended this week.
Health officials say 43,060 children aged zero to five were vaccinated in Kabarole, against a target of 38,783. That is 111 per cent of the target.
According to Catherine Kemigabo, the Kabarole District Senior Health Educator, the Ministry of Health organised the five-day campaign after measles-rubella deaths were recorded in 68 districts across the country. She said parents in Kabarole embraced the exercise.
She said there were a few challenges in Karangura Sub-county and Kiko Town Council, where some parents were misled. However, she credited the success to wide public awareness through radio and other platforms, committed health teams, and cooperative parents.
In Fort Portal City, City Health Educator James Mwesigwa said the exercise went well, with children vaccinated at health centres, in schools and in their communities.
