Pope Leo the Fourteenth has encouraged grandparents and the elderly not to feel forgotten in his message for the Sixth World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly, marked yesterday July 26th under the theme drawn from Isaiah, “I will never forget you.”
The Pontiff, reminded them that God carries each person’s face in His hands and loves them even more deeply than a mother loves her child, offering comfort to those battling loneliness or feeling reduced merely to their illness.
He had also called on young people to revive the tradition of visiting their grandparents and elderly relatives, including those with no one to check on them, saying such visits carry the Pope’s own closeness and affection.
Pope Leo further urged the elderly not to fear frailty, insisting it is never too late to deepen one’s faith, even in life’s final stages. He had asked them to join him in prayer for world peace, and thanked them for their constant support through the Rosary.
