Tooro Kingdom has set September 29, 2026 for the Coronation of the new king, Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I.
The announcement was made by the Chief Prince of the Babiito Clan, Charles Kamurasi, who said the Supreme Council sat yesterday Tuesday at Mucwa in Fort Portal City endorsed Prince Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I as the successor to the late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.

Kamurasi says preparations for the coronation are expected to commence today, Wednesday, as the kingdom begins arrangements for the installation of the new king.
He explains that on 28th September 2026, the incoming King will pass through the Mugaba Nte gate, where a mock battle will be conducted before he can access the palace.
He said that several cultural rituals will then be performed before Prince Edward Rukiidi Nyabongo I is formally declared the new King of Tooro.
He adds that the Babiito clan has not received any information from the government that could stop the installation of the new king.
The coronation follows the death of King Oyo Nyimba, who was laid to rest at the Karambi Royal Tombs in Fort Portal City on September 12th, 2026.
